South Africa 2018 - Day 14: Johannesburg

The tour was officially over but half of the group had decided to do the optional half day Johannesburg city tour as our flights were not until the evening. We met in the lobby and left just after 8:30am. The guide pointed out various buildings as we drove into the city before arriving at Constitution Hill, the site of a former prison. We walked around here and then next door there was also a constitutional court.

We continued our drive passing over Nelson Mandela bridge. The guide pointed out some more key buildings before stopping at Carlton centre which has 50 floors. At the base is a shopping mall and if you go up the elevator, you get to the 'The top of Africa' viewpoint. This has been the tallest office building in Africa since 1973. After this we made our way back to the hotel to collect our suitcases.

After a late lunch I made my way to the airport via a free shuttle bus and waited for my evening flight back home. I managed to get some sleep on the overnight flight before landing in the UK after 6am. I quickly made my way from terminal 3 over to terminal 5 with less than 90 minutes for the connecting flight to Manchester. The final leg of my journey home was the train from the airport building. I got home around lunchtime and rested before heading straight back to work. There was a mix up with my suitcase but I got it delivered to my house the very next day.

In conclusion I really enjoyed South Africa and would recommend people visit, especially the Kruger National Park where the majority of the animals are. I prefer the city of Cape Town to others with its amazing views of the city from Table Mountain. The next holiday destination I have planned is Romania, which will be my 33rd country to visit.
