Final plans for South America

With my trip getting closer and my bags almost packed, it's almost time to set off onto another adventure. This time I will be using the coach to get to London instead of the train. The price was just £5 but obviously it takes over twice as long plus the driver will need a break. I believe this is definitely worth considering if you are looking to save some money and not in any particular rush. I have bought some travel sized toothpaste and deodorant this time as I have a connecting flight in the middle of the morning in Bogotá, Colombia before reaching my arrival destination of Santiago, Chile. These need to be under 100ml to be able to be taken as hand luggage and must go through security screening inside a plastic bag. Whilst connecting during the 2.5 hour layover I plan to get some breakfast inside the airport terminal. I don't have any local currency so I will have to pay by card. I realise that I will get a small transaction charge, but that is OK because it is not worth me withdrawing such a small amount of cash before leaving.

Upon arriving into Chile, I should have a transfer waiting for me inside the arrivals gate. After being transferred to the tour starting hotel, there should also be a guide waiting in the hotel lobby for me to check-in and confirm my arrival. Later that evening there will be a welcome dinner for me to meet the rest of the group before the 18-day tour starts properly the following day.

South America: Ep 03 - Valparaiso Day Trip

Breakfast this morning was at 7am before meeting the lobby at 8am for anybody who wanted to join an optional day tour to the Chilean coastal cities of Valparaiso and Vina Del Mar. We drove for a couple of hours with a service station stop to stretch our legs, before arriving at our first photo stop in Valparaiso. Valparaiso, Chile We would have a walking tour of Valparaiso to see some of the amazing artwork around the city. This would last just over an hour, which also included a return trip on the funicular. After this we would drive to the beach city of Vina del Mar, where we would enjoy an extended lunch stop. After eating I walked right up to the beach front to see some of the Chilean locals enjoying their summer. 1 month to go until China!

As the final month approaches I have 16 more shifts at work before I am on my way to Asia for the first time. This will be continent number 3 after Europe and the African continent with Egypt earlier in the year. Something I didn't mention in the previous blog was that most countries will need a Visa to enter China. This is something I got with the help from this website . It cost me £182.40 for a 2 year tourist visa as there doesn't seem to be an option for a shorter period any more for UK citizens. This can be done in person in Manchester, London or Edinburgh or sent via Royal Mail Special delivery. South Korea and Japan thankfully don't have any special entry requirements from the UK and are free entry. I got my 3 currencies that I will need for this trip recently too. China uses Yuan(CNY) and is approx £1 for ¥8.62. South Korea uses Won(KRW) and is approx £1 for ₩1,489.20. Finally Japan uses Yen(JPY) and is approx £1 for ¥144.08. Those conversions wer
